Dr Liau Kui Hin is the Medical Director and Senior Consultant Surgeon of LIAU KH Specialist Clinic in Mt Elizabeth Novena Hospital Singapore. Being part of the teaching faculty at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, Dr Liau is actively involved in the undergraduate and graduate medical education and training. Prior to establishing his private practice, Dr Liau was the Chief of Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery Unit in the Department of General Surgery from 2004 to 2010. Concurrently, from 2008 to 2010, Dr Liau was the Deputy Head of Department of General Surgery at Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

His expertise and specializations include hepatobiliary (liver, gallbladder and bile duct) and pancreatic surgery, laparoscopic surgery and endoscopy, surgical oncology, neuroendocrine oncology, surgical infection and acute surgical care. With his extensive experience and skills, Dr Liau is recognised internationally as a key opinion leader and key thought leader by many medical professional bodies and healthcare industries in the field of hepatobiliary surgery, surgical infections and neuroendocrine oncology. For his effort to create a safer and more effective healthcare delivery, Dr Liau was awarded the Ministry of Health (MOH) Healthcare Improvement Fund Awards in 2005 and 2008. He emerged as the first prize winner for the 5th MOH Healthcare Quality Competition Award in 2008. That same year, he received the Asian Hospital Management Excellence Award for his project works under the department service improvement category.

Dr Liau graduated from medical school of the National University of Singapore in 1994 and continued with his basic and advanced surgical training at the Graduate School of Medical Studies at the National University of Singapore and College of Surgeons, Academy of Medicine Singapore. Following his post-graduate education, he furthered his higher subspecialty surgical oncology and hepatobiliary surgery training at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York, USA. Among his many qualifications, he is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, UK, and of the International College of Surgeons.

Dr Liau served in the executive council of the College of Surgeons of Singapore, Academy of Medicine from 2010 to 2014 and the council of the Asian-Pacific HepatoPancreato-Biliary Association from 2004-2009. He is one of the founders of HepatoPancreato-Biliary Association of Singapore and was the past Vice President of the association. In 2018, Dr Liau was elected to serve in the Board of Trustee of the World Surgical Infection Society. In addition, he is the secretary of the Carcinoid & Neuroendocrine Tumour Society of Singapore and member of the International HepatoPancreato-Biliary Association, European Neuroendocrine Tumour Society, Surgical Infection Society Asia Pacific, Endoscopic & Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia and International Neuroendocrine Cancers Alliance.

Dr Liau has received numerous accolades in academic, professional services and research awards. Extensively involved in research projects and academics, Dr Liau has authored more than 50 articles in local and international journals as well as delivered numerous symposium lectures at both local and international conferences. His scholastic publications include chapters in 4th Edition of LH Blumgart Surgery of The Liver and Biliary Tract and 7th Edition of Fischer’s Master of Surgery textbooks (published in 2018), and scientific papers in Annals of Surgery and Journal of Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Sciences. He sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic Science and is an editor and associate editor of the Journal of Cancer Science and Current Research and Singapore Medical Journal respectively.

Dr Liau was honoured with receive the PS21 Star Service Award in healthcare service sector from the Singapore Public Service Commission in 2009 in recognition of his dedication to service excellence.
